Since Tesla introduced the V11 software update in December of 2021, many users have experienced delays in their backup camera video. These delays with the backup camera have started to become a safety concern among Tesla owners. Delayed video could lead the driver to believe they are not as close to the object behind them as they actually are. This could potentially lead to a rear-end collision.
Some drivers have reported slight delays in the video where the video will be smooth then suddenly freeze or lag behind what is actually happening in real life. This has made it very difficult for drivers who need to navigate tight driveways or narrow parking spots, especially in the dark. While there has been no definite solution to this problem, some users have reported the delay getting better after a soft reset. This is an issue that Tesla service has been unable to resolve.
Tesla service reps are now communicating to some customers that software update 2022.8 will include a fix to at least some of the delays in the backup camera feature. While this may not solve all issues related to the backup camera, it sounds like it will solve the majority of the delays people are experiencing with video temporarily freezing while using the backup camera.
There’s no official timeline for when software update 2022.8 will be released, but judging by previous releases and Tesla's release history, we expect 2022.8 as soon as this week.
