Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg is Tesla’s first manufacturing location in Europe. CEO Elon Musk gave a well-received speech to Factory Workers at the Giga Berlin opening. Elon began the speech in German, then said:
"Thank you for all your hard work which has led to this great day. It was amazing to see how excited the customers were to receive their cars, I mean it was just super good vibes. I think it bodes very well for the future of Giga Berlin-Brandenburg."
Elon stated that he is still working on the Tesla Master Plan Part 3, reiterating that "a huge part of that is scaling to high volume." Emphasizing the importance of economies of scale he said: "Every car that we make is a step in the direction of a sustainable future."
Musk added: "With every car we make and every battery we make, we are making the future better."
With batteries being the limiting factor to scale, it sounds like the third plan will address this bottleneck. Giga Berlin will undoubtedly play a huge role in mass-producing batteries and vehicles.
When approximating how many vehicles Tesla has made as a percentage of total vehicles Elon stated that Tesla is below half of a percent of global vehicles. He noted that "it is essential that if we affect the future in a positive way, we have to make a lot of cars"
It is possible that Giga Berlin will produce the Semi and/or Cybertruck, Elon saying the factory is "starting off with the Model Y but we're gonna do a number of exciting additional vehicles here."
He then said: “I think it’s worth remembering that every car that we make is a step in the direction of a sustainable future. The thing about this factory and the cars that we make is that it gives people hope for the future. It’s very important to have reasons to be excited about the future because often people are depressed or sad about the future because they think it won’t be good.”
Musk then opened the floor to questions for the next 15 minutes, answering questions such as when FSD Beta is coming to Europe and why Tesla is careful when introducing new paint colors.
