Tonight Tesla released an iOS app update that contains fixes and improvements to existing features. However, under the hood Tesla is preparing for a new feature, Tesla sharing.
The app update contains an image, text phrases and new APIs that reference the ability to share a vehicle. From the updates in the app we can tell several of the features that will be included when sharing your Tesla.
A Tesla owner will have the ability to send an invitation to others when sharing a vehicle. The individual accepting the invitation will need the latest Tesla app and a Tesla account if they don’t already have one.
Upon signing in, they’ll then presumably have access to your vehicle. The owner of the vehicle will be able to revoke access at any time, add more drivers or set an expiration date of when access to the vehicle ends.
The lender will be able to share a vehicle with up to five individuals. The ability to share your vehicle is currently available through your Tesla Account page, but making it available in the app will make it even more accessible.
Since the app already contains user-facing text phrases and icons, we expect this feature to launch soon in the Tesla app.

Update: Tesla added the ability to add a temporary driver in it's Tesla app. Tesla also released many new features in the 2021 Holiday Update. The holiday update was released with version 2021.44.25.
