Tesla is issuing a voluntary recall for some European vehicles to address a potential issue with brake line corrosion. Tesla is proactively contacting owners ahead of an official notice that should be published by relevant regulators throughout Europe.

The Issue

The recall will address possible corrosion in the brake lines of certain vehicles. This recall is specific to particular batches of vehicles produced at Gigafactory Berlin, affecting model years 2024 and 2025.

This only impacts the original Model Y and the refreshed Model 3. The refreshed Model Y is under model year 2026, and is not impacted by this recall. At this time, the total number of impacted vehicles is unknown, as no official recall notice has been published.

Tesla has not published an engineering analysis for this recall yet, so we’re not sure what the cause is, but we expect it to be related to contaminated brake fluid.

The Fix

Tesla is making two changes to affected vehicles. Tesla is replacing the brake fluid in impacted vehicles, and it’s also making a software-related change. At the time of the replacement, Tesla will also inspect your brake lines to ensure that there is no corrosion present, and if there is, your brake lines will be replaced.

At this time, Tesla does not expect to be replacing brake lines - just the brake fluid. In addition, Tesla will also issue a software update to the vehicle brake configuration. We’re not sure whether Tesla has already packaged this update with 2025.26.X, or whether it will be provided in an upcoming software update. If you don’t receive the updated configuration, it will be conducted by Tesla Service once you visit the service center.

The procedure will need to be performed at a Tesla Service Center. Tesla is not offering Mobile Ranger support for this recall due to the requirements for the collection and disposal of the old brake fluid.

The service time will be approximately 60 minutes for a Model Y, and approximately 90 minutes for a Model 3, as per the brake fluid replacement procedures in the Service Manual. If your brake lines need to be replaced following inspection, Tesla will likely need to keep your vehicle for a few hours for the extended fix.

The Notification

Tesla is directly notifying impacted vehicle owners through the usual primary channels. There will be a notification in your Tesla app next time you request service from Tesla. The fluid replacement and configuration update will be automatically added to your service ticket at that time.

Otherwise, Tesla will notify impacted owners by email, as well as by mail through your national transport safety regulator.
