Tesla has increased the starting price of the Model S and Model X by $10,000, but the hike comes with the introduction of a new “Luxe Package.” The bundle includes a mix of high-value features and protections that, on paper, could appeal to buyers seeking an all-inclusive ownership experience — but for many, it will result in a net price increase.
What’s in the Luxe Package
The new Luxe Package includes:
Full Self-Driving (FSD) — Tesla’s FSD software suite. This is the same package that’s offered on other models, which is currently a $8,000 value.
Four-Year Premium Service — This includes wheel and tire protection, windshield protection and recommended maintenance for four years. We know the windshield protection is offered at $23/month for Model X owners and $15/month for the Model S, so that’s roughly a $900-$1,380 value over five years. Add in the wheel and tire protection and the minimum maintenance your Tesla will need, such as tire rotations, and this could potentially be worth several thousand dollars to some buyers.
Free lifetime Supercharging — This is a rare Tesla perk nowadays. If you drive a lot, this alone could make the Luxe package worth it for you. While the value of this perk will change drastically from buyer to buyer, most owners likely spend $100-300 a year on Superchargers, making this worth approximately $500-$1,500 over five years.
Free premium connectivity — Tesla’s Premium Connectivity package, normally priced at $99/year, is now included. Over five years, this is a value of $495. Premium connectivity offers satellite-view maps, the ability to stream music and Sentry Mode footage, and more (full list of features).
While the package’s combined retail value could exceed its price of roughly $10,000, the Luxe package is not optional, and it’s included with every Model S and Model X purchase. Whether it’s worth it for you will depend on how often you use each feature and how much you value them.
Change from Tesla’s Previous Offers
Previously, Tesla offered a free upgrade with the purchase of FSD. Depending on the upgrade the buyer picked, this could have been a great deal. For example, if you added Tesla’s 6-seat configuration for the Model X, priced at $6,500, or premium wheels priced at $5,500, this ended up being a great deal that effectively made FSD cost $1,500-$2,000.
Tesla is also currently offering free FSD transfers; however, with FSD now being included with the Model S and X, this is no longer an option for new buyers, making part of the Luxe package less attractive.
Inventory Is Still An Option
For buyers not interested in the Luxe Package, there’s still an alternative. Tesla’s remaining 2025 Model S and X inventory — produced before the recent redesign — is still available without Luxe. These vehicles are now significantly cheaper than the new Luxe-equipped versions, creating one of the widest price gaps we’ve seen in the S/X lineup. While a new AWD Model X now starts at $99,990, a comparable 2025 model (without the front bumper camera, etc) starts at about $77,000 without FSD or $85,000 with FSD included.
For six-seat configurations, the price difference is even more drastic. A new 2026 six-seater Model X with the Luxe package now costs $111,990, while a 2025 version costs $90,980 with the same FSD package and six seats. The 2025 versions obviously don’t include the new features of 2026 and the Luxe package, but it’s a striking price difference.
What’s Tesla Doing?
The Luxe Package helps differentiate the Model S and Model X from the rest of the pack. Tesla’s upcoming six-seater Model Y L is now expected to be available globally, so Tesla may be trying to make the Model X stand out. We recently took a look at all the features in the Model Y L, and we think, given the price difference when compared to the Model X, this new model could have a drastic effect on sales of the X.
The addition of the Luxe package is interesting. While it adds a lot of value, it also significantly increases the starting price for the Model S and Model X. For buyers interested in these vehicles, we suggest breaking down everything in the Luxe package to see what it’s worth to you, as the value of the free Supercharging in particular can vary greatly.
