Tesla started rolling out FSD to Australia and New Zealand last month, and now, about a month after the initial release, Tesla is now offering buyers the option to subscribe to the costly feature.
FSD Subscription
Tesla has expanded its subscription offering to Down Under, offering FSD for $149 AUD in Australia and $159 NZD in New Zealand.
The subscription model makes a lot of sense in the region, where Teslas have been available for years, and buyers would be unlikely to purchase FSD for an older vehicle.
Since many owners didn’t buy FSD because it doesn't offer new functionality beyond Enhanced Autopilot, Tesla is offering a reduced subscription for those who already bought Enhanced Autopilot. Those vehicles can subscribe for $75 AUD or $80 NZD.
Other Regions
While FSD is now available in a variety of countries, including the U.S. (including PR), Canada, Mexico, China, Australia, and New Zealand, subscription had been limited to the U.S. and Canada so far. With the introduction of the subscription model Down Under, there’s hope that Tesla will introduce the subscription to other regions as well.
HW4
Similar to China, FSD is currently limited to vehicles running HW4 in Australia and New Zealand; however, the expectation is that Tesla opens this up to HW3 vehicles once additional testing is complete.
While FSD v14 has been released in North America, Australia, and New Zealand are still using FSD v13.2.9, which means that it’s likely running a different, localized version of FSD.
Tesla recently talked about the FSD take rate in North America, and with FSD subscriptions being one of Musk’s tranches in his upcoming pay package, you can bet that we’ll start seeing subscriptions available in as many regions as possible.
