Tesla is aggressively expanding its internal rental program beyond its initial California pilot, launching in major cities across Texas, Massachusetts, Tennessee, and Arizona.
According to new job listings posted on Tesla’s website, the program - which functions as a hybrid between a traditional vehicle rental and an extended test drive - is now hiring Rental Readiness Specialists across the United States.
All-Inclusive Pricing
Tesla’s rental model effectively undercuts the traditional rental market, dominated by Hertz and Enterprise, as well as peer-to-peer rentals like Turo by bunding high-value costs directly into the daily rates:
$60/day: Model 3 and Model Y
$75/day: Cybertruck
$90/day: Model S and Model X

While this operates as a full-fledged rental service, the structure reveals that it is primarily a sales tool. The program allows for rentals of up to 7 days. If a buyer then purchases a vehicle within 7 days of returning the car, Tesla provides a $250 credit, effectively reimbursing the cost of a short rental.
Small Discount
Based on the new program’s 3-day minimum rental requirement, you could rent a Model 3 for three days ($180 total) and receive a $250 credit upon purchase, resulting in a net discount of ~$70 on your vehicle, plus a free weekend road trip.
This strategy will undoubtedly increase the FSD take rate, which Tesla has been working hard to address: a short test drive is rarely enough time for a customer to learn to trust FSD and appreciate all of Tesla’s features. By giving potential buyers a week with the software on their own commute, without a salesperson in the passenger seat, Tesla is betting that the experience will convert them into buyers.

It is worth noting that the fine print restricts the rentals to the state where they are picked up, preventing cross-country road trips, despite the unlimited miles that are allowed.
