Since its introduction in FSD v11, Tesla owners have wondered whether the FSD voice notes they leave after an FSD disengagement actually go anywhere or simply vanish into the digital treasure trove of data that Tesla collects every day.
In a response on X, Tesla AI engineer Yun-Ta Tsai validated the efforts of customers who leave voice notes, simply stating that they’re very helpful and that Tesla actually reads them.
Listening to the Black Hole
The confirmation came after a user asked whether there was a better way to provide detailed feedback on specific edge cases, noting that he felt like a magnet for tricky driving scenarios, and giving feedback can often feel challenging.
Tsai’s response essentially proves that while Tesla is aggregating all this driving data, it is also listening to customer feedback via the voice notes.
While Tesla likely sorts and filters these notes with AI due to the sheer daily volume of clips, Tsai’s comment confirms that Tesla’s teams actively review these notes to understand why a user had to take over.
Why It Matters
When a driver disengages FSD, the car knows what happened - the driver turned the wheel, stepped on the brakes, or pressed the FSD button to disengage - but it doesn’t necessarily know the why.
Did it drift too close to a barrier? Did it misread a sign? Or did the driver just want to turn early and get coffee at the Starbucks they just passed? These are all legitimate options, but leaving a voice note helps to provide the critical qualitative information for your disengagement.
Leaving Voice Notes
If you’ve never left a voice note, it’s a super simple process. When you disengage FSD for any reason and in any method, you’ll be immediately prompted with an on-screen pop-up in the media tray asking, “What happened? Leave a Voice Note.” You can then tap your voice control button once and leave up to a 10-second-long voice note for Tesla’s AI Team.
Try to be brief, specific, and most importantly - polite. Often, it can be easy to take the voice note as an opportunity to yell into the void - but at the end of the day, Tesla’s AI team might just be listening to your voice note and watching your clip to fix something.
So, whenever you disengage FSD, leave a voice note.
