Consumer Reports has named the Model Y, the world’s best-selling vehicle, the Top Pick for electric vehicles in its 2026 rankings. What makes this win particularly notable is the company it’s with. The list is dominated by the resurgence of hybrid vehicles, but the Model Y is the only fully electric vehicle (BEV) to make the cut.
This recognition arrives following last year’s full-blown refresh of the Model Y, suggesting that all of Tesla’s work to refine the ride quality, cabin quietness, and interior materials has successfully addressed the long-standing critiques of the original Model Y.
Lone Electric Survivor
For the first time in Consumer Reports' history, all 10 choices for 2026 are electrified - meaning they’re available as either hybrids or fully electric vehicles. However, the Model Y is the sole model available in pure battery-electric form.

While Consumer Reports praised the entire list for offering industry-standard key safety features like Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and pedestrian detection, the Model Y’s selection specifically highlights its maturity in Tesla’s product cycle.
The 2026 rankings placed heavy weight on reliability, road-test performance, and owner satisfaction. For the Model Y, the 2026 model-year refresh likely helped maintain its crown. The refresh introduced frequency-dependent dampers for smoother suspension, acoustic glass for a quieter cabin, a modernized interior with new lighting, and more.
All this, in combination with other under-the-frunk changes to the gigacasting for additional stiffness, directly addressed long-standing customer complaints about the Model Y—a stiff ride and wind noise.
