Following widespread reports of Cybertruck owners experiencing Power Conversion System (PCS) failures, Tesla has initiated an aggressive software and policy response. While a permanent hardware fix is still constrained by parts availability, the company is rolling out an emergency over-the-air update to keep affected trucks on the road.

Update over Cellular
When a Cybertruck experiences a PCS failure, the vehicle loses its ability to process alternating current (AC), completely breaking the ability to charge at home via a Wall Connector or standard outlet. To mitigate the impact of this hardware failure, Tesla is currently pushing out a targeted firmware update to all affected vehicles.
This specific update includes specialized code that ensures the truck's battery management system will seamlessly allow DC fast charging at Superchargers, even when the AC charging hardware is completely offline.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Tesla has flagged this firmware to bypass the standard Wi-Fi connection requirement. The update is being pushed directly through the vehicle's cellular connection so owners can download and install the patch as soon as possible. Because Tesla software is deployed in staggered waves, it may take a few days for the update to reach every affected vehicle.
Free Supercharging to Bridge the Gap
Because a dead PCS forces owners to rely entirely on the Supercharger network rather than cheaper residential electricity, Tesla is stepping in to cover the cost.
According to the latest developments, Tesla will be covering all Supercharging fees for owners experiencing a verified PCS failure. This financial relief serves as a direct apology for the inconvenience and will remain in place until the vehicle can be properly serviced and the hardware is replaced.
Aggressive Parts Restocking
While the software update and free Supercharging provide a vital temporary lifeline, the ultimate bottleneck has been the severe shortage of replacement PCS units. Service centers have been heavily backlogged, leaving many trucks waiting weeks for repairs.
However, Tesla is working aggressively in parallel to resolve these supply chain delays. A massive influx of replacement parts is expected to go live in the internal service system in the coming days, which should help rapidly clear the backlog and restore home-charging capabilities to these early Cybertrucks.
