SpaceX Rolls Starship V3 to Launch Pad As Booster Completes Static Fire

The maiden flight of SpaceX’s next-generation V3 Starship is imminent. Yesterday, SpaceX successfully conducted a prolonged static fire of Super Heavy Booster 19 at Starbase, Texas.

Simultaneously, teams began rolling Ship 39 out to the launch mount. These are the two final major operations before SpaceX begins the stacking process at the launch site for Flight 12, marking the official launch debut of Starship V3.

Booster 19 Static Fire

Booster 19 ignited its engines on the newly constructed orbital launch mount at Pad 2 for approximately 14 seconds. This extended duration test verified the health of the propulsion systems while stress-testing the new heavy ground infrastructure.

The new water deluge system performed well under the immense thermal and acoustic loads and successfully protected the concrete infrastructure underneath. Ensuring that infrastructure remains intact is essential for SpaceX to eventually achieve Falcon 9-level launch cadence with Starship, a necessity for Elon Musk’s plans for orbital data centers.

The Raptor 3 Advantage

The significance of Flight 12 goes far beyond an atmospheric test. Ship 39 and Booster 19 are the very first prototypes of the Starship V3 generation. The defining characteristic of this new block is the complete integration of SpaceX's Raptor 3 engines, which Ship 39 recently static fired last month.

A single Raptor 3 engine produces roughly 280 tons of thrust. When all 33 engines on Booster 19 fire simultaneously, the lower stage generates 9,240 tons of thrust, making it the most powerful rocket ever ignited. 

This upgrade allows the Starship V3 to carry over 100 tons to low Earth orbit in a fully reusable configuration, representing a leap over previous iterations.

Stacking for Flight 12

With Ship 39 currently making its way to the launch site, SpaceX is moving from component testing to full stack integration.

Once Ship 39 is lifted and secured to Booster 19, SpaceX will proceed with a full wet dress rehearsal to verify the propellant loading sequences across both vehicles. 

If the integration proceeds smoothly, the timeline of launching Flight 12 within the coming weeks is highly probable. The successful static fire today proves the raw hardware is ready, leaving final stacking and regulatory flight clearance as the only remaining hurdles.
