The wait for the final chapter of Tesla’s flagship legacy is back on schedule. After a brief period of uncertainty over the weekend when invitees were told the celebration was being postponed, Tesla has officially set a new date for the Model S and Model X Signature Edition delivery event.
According to a new email sent to guests, the event will now take place on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Tesla's factory in Fremont, California. Guests are being asked to re-register to receive a new QR code ticket for entry.
Why the Reschedule?
While Tesla hasn't given an official reason for moving the date from May 12 to May 20, it is clear that production issues aren't the culprit. Over the weekend, Tesla confirmed that it had already finished the entire production run of the 350 Signature Edition units — 250 Model S and 100 Model X vehicles.
One plausible theory among the community is that the original date clashed with Elon Musk’s diplomatic schedule. Musk was invited to join U.S. President Donald Trump on a high-profile trip to Beijing to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping. That mission is expected to span from May 13 to May 15, making a May 20 event perfectly viable for the CEO to personally oversee the delivery of the last-ever Model S and Model X units.
A Six-Figure Send-Off
These Signature Edition vehicles aren't just your standard Plaid models. Priced at a whopping $159,420, the Model S and Model X SE represent the absolute peak of Tesla’s luxury manufacturing. Each car features a deep Garnet Red paint job with matching door handles, carbon-ceramic brakes with gold calipers, and a refined interior with Alcantara seats, gold piping, custom puddle lights, and unique edition numbering on the dash.
It is a fitting tribute to the cars that changed the world.
