Tesla is getting ready to host what will undoubtedly be one of the most emotional milestones in its history as a company. The automaker is officially closing the book on the two flagship vehicles that paved the way for the EV revolution.
After a brief delay pushed the original schedule back by a week, Tesla set May 20 as the new date for its exclusive delivery celebration. The event will serve as a celebration of the Model S and Model X's multi-decade legacy, marking the definitive end of an era by handing over the keys to the final units ever produced.

The historic broadcast is scheduled to kick off live from the Fremont factory in California on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 5:00 PM Pacific Time.

The Signature Send-Off
Tesla gave the community a final teaser of the collector-tier vehicles on Tuesday, sharing preview images on X. These ultra-exclusive vehicles were only available via an invite-only purchasing process that initially rolled out last month. Priced at an identical $159,420 for both configurations, the production run was strictly capped at just 250 Model S units and 100 Model X units.
Every single vehicle is a top-tier Plaid variant finished in a stunning, exclusive Garnet Red paint with matching door handles. The high-performance look is rounded out by carbon-ceramic brakes clamped by golden calipers and a gold Tesla "T" badge. Inside, owners are treated to gold Plaid badging on premium Alcantara seats, gold piping on the trim, a Signature-marked door sill with Plaid puddle lights, and unique edition numbering on the dashboard. They also include Tesla's (non-transferable) Luxe Package to ensure buyers get the highest-end configuration possible.
Repurposing the Line for Optimus
The end of the line for these flagships is a structural necessity for Tesla’s grander ecosystem. The company officially closed standard orders for the Model S and X at the end of March to prepare for this transition.
Over the last few weeks, the final production run was spotted filling the outbound logistics lots as manufacturing wrapped up entirely. Now, Tesla will completely dismantle and repurpose the assembly floor space. The lines that once built Tesla’s most luxurious passenger cars will soon be converted into mass-manufacturing capacity for the Optimus humanoid robot, cementing Tesla’s transition from a standard car company into a pure robotics and AI powerhouse.
