Tesla vehicles are famous for their minimalist cabins, but that sleek design comes with a few known compromises for phone-dependent drivers.
While all Teslas today feature built-in wireless chargers, their placement in the center console makes it difficult to view incoming notifications. This gap is more evident, given that Tesla hasn’t implemented Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
While third-party solutions have flooded the market, a unique new crowdfunded accessory looks to bring some flexibility to the phone-mount space. E-mobility manufacturer Splach — known for its lineup of e-bikes and e-scooters — has launched a Kickstarter campaign for the Zippy Ultra.
The device is a transparent, modular phone-mounting and charging system engineered to position your smartphone directly alongside the primary infotainment screen.
A Clever 3-in-1 Modular Layout
The standout feature of the Zippy Ultra is its unique mechanical versatility. According to the product's marketing materials, the device features a 3-in-1 modular design comprising a smartphone holder, a detachable power bank, and an expansive multi-mount hardware kit.
The phone holder and the 4,200mAh power bank can combine into a single, high-performing charging pack via a magnetic pin layout. However, they are engineered to work completely independently of one another. The power bank can be detached from the primary bracket at any time and instantly functions as a standalone, pocket-friendly portable charger.
Even when the power bank is removed, the phone holder remains fully usable. A touch-sensitive button located on the rear sensor allows users to activate a motorized open-and-clamp mechanism. The clamp arms automatically open and close tightly to cradle devices measuring 72mm to 102mm wide, holding them securely in place.
However, if you want to charge your phone wirelessly while it is docked, the power bank must be clicked back onto the holder to deliver the 15W wireless output.
Designed for Teslas, Laptops, and Beyond
While the accessory is prominently showcased in a Tesla cabin throughout its promotional media, the phone mount is far from a single-vehicle solution. The bracket is engineered to clamp onto any display, not just that of a Model 3 or Model Y, as long as it has a thickness ranging between 6mm and 15mm. Dual adjustment knobs allow users to expand or compress the bracket's depth to accommodate additional devices such as laptops, desktop monitors, and bikes.
Once clamped, an integrated metal extension arm can swing in a full circle, allowing drivers to position their smartphone at whatever angle they want to the main display. Coupled with a 17mm universal ball joint, the holder allows for 360-degree rotation, letting you flip your device effortlessly between portrait and landscape modes.
Campaign Status and Availability
The product has generated early interest from Tesla owners and tech enthusiasts. The Kickstarter campaign has already surpassed its initial $1,000 USD goal, securing $5,857 USD from 61 backers at the time of writing, with nearly a month of funding still open.
Early bird tiers currently start at $59 USD — representing a 50% discount off its planned $119 USD retail price — and include the core charging block, a metal screen mount, a clamp-style vent mount, and a hanging cable. Splach expects to distribute backer rewards and initiate global shipping in July 2026.
Tesla has experimented with selling its own wireless portable chargers in the past, but it has never offered a fully integrated screen-side mounting system.
