Tesla has officially launched a new web-based utility that makes it easier to view Dashcam footage outside of the vehicle. The official online tool, accessible at dashcam.tesla.com, debuted alongside software update 2026.20, which introduced dashcam clip encryption and started rolling out last week.

On the consumer side, update 2026.20 not only brought privacy improvements but also introduced new parental controls to restrict access to entertainment apps like Tesla Arcade.
For technicians or DIYers, the same release added troubleshooting panels and a new camera cleaning guide to Service Mode. The new online Dashcam Viewer is a necessity if you’re viewing clips on your computer and using the new Dashcam encryption feature, which is enabled by default.
Seamless Integration and Decryption
The files on your Tesla’s storage drive are not encrypted until your vehicle receives the 2026.20 update. Once updated, the car automatically protects recordings by default with an encryption key tied to your Tesla account, though owners can choose to opt out of this feature by going to Controls > Safety. Encrypted recordings can’t be played on unauthorized devices, protecting your privacy if someone steals the USB drive from your vehicle.
When you head over to the online viewer, it prompts you to log in with your Tesla account. Upon authentication, the utility automatically fetches the unique encryption keys specific to your account. The software uses these keys to unlock and decrypt your protected clips in real time.
In addition, this system functions as a universal dashcam viewer, similar to the one in your vehicle. It can open and organize standard, unencrypted files just as easily.
Privacy remains completely locked down during this entire process. The portal handles all video processing locally on your computer, meaning your recordings are never uploaded to the cloud or external servers.
A Multi-Camera Grid Layout
The user interface of the web app mirrors the familiar layout and feel of the in-vehicle Dashcam Viewer. Instead of forcing users to manually open each individual camera stream, you simply drag and drop the video files you want to view into your browser window.
The platform automatically handles the organization based on the filenames, sorting files chronologically by time and automatically merging separate camera angles from the same timestamp into a single video clip.
When you click play on an item, it combines the various front, rear, left, and right camera views into a synchronized four-camera grid array. This way, you can view a grid similar to the in-vehicle player layout or select individual angles along the bottom bar, giving you a full view of any incident.
Tesla’s online Dashcam Viewer also includes a handy Download All button at the bottom of the screen. Tapping this button compiles all loaded clips into a single ZIP file for local storage or backup.
Expanding Functionality for Global Owners
The arrival of the web viewer complements Tesla's recent video recording improvements. Back in April, the Spring 2026 Software Update expanded the rolling dashcam history buffer up to a full 24 hours of driving footage (provided you have a 1TB or larger USB drive installed). Managing that massive video volume is significantly simpler now that owners can review data on laptops or mobile phones natively, without having to download any software (third-party or otherwise).
The browser tool is fully accessible on mobile, allowing you to use a USB OTG adapter to check clips on the go. However, the portal seems to be inaccessible in several countries at the time of writing.
As Tesla continues to improve its vehicles’ video recording functionality with features like built-in digital zoom and pan functionality and a real-time telemetry overlay, this lightweight browser tool ensures owners have immediate, secure, and intuitive access to their data whenever they need it.
