Tesla is expanding the global footprint of its in-car artificial intelligence companion. As spotted in the release notes for software update 2026.20, the xAI (SpaceXAI?)-made Grok chatbot that’s been part of Tesla’s cabin experience for close to a year is now available in several new international markets.

Update 2026.20 started rolling out to vehicle owners last week. In addition to bringing Grok to more countries, the release also comes with a few new features, including automatic dashcam clip encryption for improved privacy and new parental controls to restrict app access.
Global Expansion Details
Grok originally made its automotive debut in the United States before making its way across the border into Canada. Following that initial rollout, Tesla launched Grok with navigation commands in Europe and later exported the chatbot to Australia and New Zealand.
With update 2026.20, the assistant is rolling out to even more territories, including Chile, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, and Hong Kong, though other regions may also be included in this update. Despite this ongoing push, a few isolated areas still lack access to the chatbot, such as Norway and the Czech Republic.
Core Features and Voice Commands
This international expansion brings the complete suite of Grok features to these new regions. The chatbot supports standard open-ended questions and navigation commands, as well as the hands-free “Hey Grok” wake word and location-based reminders that were introduced in the recent Spring 2026 Software Update (version 2026.14 and later).
You can launch Grok via the app launcher, by long-pressing the steering wheel voice button, or by saying "Hey Grok." Owners can adjust the assistant's voice and personality settings, choosing between creative profiles like Storyteller or Unhinged.
When configured to the Assistant profile, Grok can add and edit your navigation destinations. The chatbot also supports advanced location-based reminder functionality, allowing you to verbally set alerts such as "remind me to pick up milk when I'm near home," or "remind me to take the groceries out of the frunk when I get home." Using the system requires either an active Premium Connectivity subscription or a stable Wi-Fi connection.
Future Capabilities
Right now, Grok is operating in an early Beta phase. The system does not currently support voice commands for vehicle controls outside of basic route planning. However, Tesla plans to add more features down the road.
