Tesla has expanded its paint options for European Model Y buyers, introducing a fresh look for the most affordable version of its best-selling crossover. As officially announced by @teslaeurope on X, “Coastal Blue” is now available for the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) in Europe.
The new shade is a product of Gigafactory Berlin. Tesla has often touted the Giga Berlin paint shop as the "most advanced" in the world, offering "more layers and stunning colors that subtly change with curvature."
A New Look for the Entry-Level Trim
The introduction of Coastal Blue adds a fourth paint option to Tesla’s most affordable Model Y configuration. Formerly marketed as the “Standard” variant, the base model is now known simply as the Model Y RWD. Since it launched in Europe last fall, the entry-level trim has been restricted to a tight color palette consisting of the included Stealth Grey, Pearl White Multi-Coat (€1,300), and Diamond Black (€1,300). Coastal Blue arrives as another €1,300 upgrade across European order configurators.
The Model Y RWD is a cut-down, built-to-a-price alternative to the pricier variants of Tesla's popular crossover. To achieve its lower price point, the car is slower and offers less overall range.
It also skips several premium amenities found on higher tiers, instead coming with fabric seats, a basic 7-speaker sound setup, manual steering column adjustment, indirect tire pressure monitoring, and simplified acoustic glass, while dropping the rear infotainment display, ambient cabin lighting, and other features. Navigating the Global Paint Lineup
Visually, Coastal Blue occupies a middle ground between the other blue shades in Tesla’s current lineup. It sits comfortably between the deeper Marine Blue available on Premium and Performance trims in Europe and the icy, pale Frost Blue that Tesla recently handed down to the Model Y Performance from the now-discontinued Model S and Model X in the U.S.
Frost Blue remains unavailable to European buyers, where the top-spec Model Y Performance instead offers the same Marine Blue as the Premium version. Here’s a quick table to help you visualize the full Model Y paint lineup currently available in Europe:

While Coastal Blue is currently restricted to European markets, it could follow a familiar global expansion path. The deeper Marine Blue color option originally launched as a European exclusive last fall before becoming available in North America just last month. As such, we might see the lighter blue shade head across the Atlantic to Gigafactory Texas sometime in the coming months.
