The European domino effect for Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software is moving faster than anyone anticipated. Belgium has officially become the fifth country in the European Union to approve the system for public use, signaling a massive shift in how regional regulators view Tesla's advanced driver assistance technology.
Flemish Minister of Mobility Annick De Ridder, who has been a major proponent of bringing FSD to Flanders and Belgium ever since it made landfall in Europe, broke the news on X. She announced, "The @Tesla community has been keeping a close eye on this for quite some time regarding the approval for FSD technology on our Flemish and Belgian roads. In appreciation of your unwavering interest (and encouragement), you get the scoop here: I just signed the approval!”
This historic update comes the day after Denmark became the fourth EU country to recognize the Dutch RDW's landmark approval of FSD and greenlight it for public roads. It also arrives less than two weeks after FSD received approval in Estonia. Belgium had been fast-tracking its approval process under De Ridder's leadership over the past few weeks, but the official signature dropped much sooner than expected.
The Rapid European Expansion
Belgium joins the Netherlands, Denmark, Lithuania, and Estonia on the list of European nations opening up to the software. This milestone marks the fifth EU country (and 11% of all European countries) to approve public use in the two months since the Netherlands issued its landmark type approval.

With the Flemish Mobility Minister’s signature secured, the paperwork heads to the regional homologation department. Once fully ratified, Tesla can begin pushing FSD (Supervised) to local vehicles via software update. As in other European countries that have welcomed FSD, Flemish and Belgian drivers should note that the initial rollout will be exclusive to Hardware 4 (HW4/AI4) vehicles and will feature a regional variant of the FSD v14 branch, tailored specifically for European roads and laws.
A Bloc-Wide Tipping Point?
The one-day proximity between the Danish and Belgian FSD approvals suggests bureaucratic hurdles are quickly dissolving. At the recent CVPR conference in Denver, Tesla AI chief Ashok Elluswamy shared a map showing every country currently awaiting regulatory approval for FSD, which indicated a broader EU-wide rollout was on the horizon.
With neighbors like Sweden expanding public FSD testing and Latvia accelerating its own paperwork, pressure is mounting on the remaining member states. If individual nations continue to cross-approve the framework established by the Dutch RDW at this pace, a blanket adoption by the European Commission could unify the region under a single regulatory green light for FSD much faster than originally expected.
