Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software is becoming increasingly proficient at cruising highways and navigating city streets, but parking at the destination remains a pain point for most users. The system’s automated parking logic is one of the most common triggers for driver disengagements.
More often than not, users find FSD picking inappropriate parking spaces at the end of their journey. The system habitually slides into parking spots that are too far from the entrance in an empty lot or slides into a designated handicap or reserved spot, prompting the driver to take over. It often feels like FSD just parks wherever it feels like.
However, a neat new owner video shows that, like confidence, smoothness, and decision-making on the open road, Tesla's neural networks are also getting smarter in parking lots.
Spotting an Opening in Real Time
A clip shared on X by user @TennesseeTesla highlights a major shift in parking logic. In the video, a Tesla running the latest FSD v14.3.3 is seen traversing a crowded restaurant parking lot, following a blue pickup truck.

As the truck pulls into a spot, the driver assumes the vehicle is just stopping behind it. Instead, the vehicle shifts into reverse and backs up at 1 mph through a large section of the parking lot. The driver initially thinks it is just backing up to give the truck room to maneuver, especially when it pauses for a pedestrian walking past behind it.
But as soon as the pedestrian clears, the vehicle continues reversing down the aisle, making its way backward into a newly vacated parking spot right in front of the business entrance that was evacuated after it had already gone past the first time around. The logic displayed by FSD — realizing there were no spaces ahead, spotting a fresh opening behind it, and safely navigating backward to claim it — impressed the driver.

Refining the End of the Drive
Parking has long been a pain point for Full Self-Driving users, who have been calling for more granular parking selection that lets you pick exactly which spot FSD tries to pull into. It’s gotten to the point that the community has taken it upon itself to develop concepts for features that could make it better. As such, it’s refreshing to see Tesla's neural networks applying clear reasoning to the process.
Tesla did introduce a dedicated Parking at Destination option with FSD v14.1 that lets you choose exactly how and where your vehicle stops when you arrive, but you can’t select individual parking spots (yet). This is in addition to FSD’s default parking reasoning, which picks the best way to park depending on where you’re going (or it tries to, at least).
This latest FSD v14.3.3 behavior shows that Tesla’s self-parking models are maturing, moving from hunting blindly and picking a spot on a whim to recognizing and adjusting to parking availability on the fly.
