The technical specifications for Tesla's dedicated robotaxi are finally coming to light as public deployment inches closer. Publicly accessible certification documents have officially dropped, giving us our very first look at the specs for the Cybercab.
Longtime Tesla watcher @SawyerMerritt posted on X that new information about Tesla's Cybercab has been revealed in public EPA documents. The official filings reveal some surprising design choices for Tesla.
Unpacking the Specs
According to the full EPA filings, Tesla’s purpose-built autonomous vehicle features a front-wheel drive configuration, marking a rare departure from Tesla's usual rear-wheel or all-wheel drive architecture. The battery pack capacity lands at approximately 48 kWh, running at an operating voltage of 326V. The electric motor puts out 163 kW of power, translating to 219 horsepower.
Because the Cybercab is designed from the ground up for high utilization and full autonomy, keeping structural mass low was clearly a priority. The documents list the curb weight at a light 3,113 lbs, with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 3,730 lbs.
When it comes to range, the raw paperwork numbers look really impressive. The “Equivalent All-Electric Range” is listed as 418 miles, alongside 375 miles of highway range. However, these raw lab numbers don’t translate directly to a real-world EPA range rating. The final EPA range rating for a vehicle is usually a fair bit lower than the “Equivalent All-Electric Range.” However, the EPA’s final verdict should align well with previous claims from Tesla about the Cybercab getting about 300 miles of usable range. Fleet Deployment Getting Closer
In addition to revealing these core vehicle specs, the Cybercab has officially secured its formal EPA Certificate of Conformity. This certificate verifies that a specific vehicle meets all federal Clean Air Act emission standards before it can be legally sold or introduced into U.S. commerce (Robotaxi deployment incoming?).
Securing this certification means public deployment could be right around the corner. Tesla officially kicked off mass production of the Cybercab at Gigafactory Texas in late April, and we have already seen a mix of steering wheel-less Cybercabs and units with steering wheels rolling off the line. Over 150 Cybercabs were spotted at staging lots in Texas over the past couple of days (including just over 100 in the outbound lot at Giga Texas), indicating that Tesla is already positioning hardware for a potential public launch.
Tesla recently self-certified its vehicles as SAE Level 4-compliant in Texas to help clear local regulatory paths. While executives previously mentioned waiting for FSD v15 before any large-scale Robotaxi expansions, EPS certifications for the Cybercab mean that initial commercial integration into existing service areas could begin very soon.
