A Cybertruck accessory that has been extremely restricted since launch is finally opening up to the broader community. Tesla has officially added the Cybertruck Off-Road Light Bar to its online shop in North America, allowing owners of any trim to purchase the rooftop lighting kit.
Up until now, the lightbar was available exclusively as a Foundation Series accessory. It was included as a standard add-on with all Foundation Series Cyberbeast orders, leaving non-Foundation Series owners in the dark. Some even resorted to buying these lightbars off Foundation Series owners who didn’t plan on using them. Now, any owner in the U.S. and Canada can head to the Tesla Shop or open the Tesla app on their phone to order one, with availability expected to roll out to international Cybertruck markets later.
Specs and Touchscreen Integration
According to the official product listing, the Off-Road Light Bar is priced at $1,950 USD ($2,700 CAD). The product description notes: "The Cybertruck Off-Road Light Bar features a high-performance light bar that utilizes the 48V architecture of Cybertruck. With the latest LED optical technology, it can cast a powerful and uniform beam of light onto the trail ahead. The single housing is designed to accommodate reflectors for easy ditch lighting. Control the light angle, intensity and other settings through the touchscreen."
The hardware mounts directly to the outside of the roof at the top of the windshield. It utilizes the top-mounted 48V auxiliary power tap built into the frame to draw current, integrating into the truck’s software so you can control it right from your touchscreen. While early pre-production Cybertruck renders from back in 2019 teased a built-in laser lightbar, it never came to fruition. Tesla instead brought an optional LED design to production. The system is incredibly bright and ships with a protective blackout film attached. Tesla does not recommend removing this film, and company technicians will not remove it for you.
A More Secure Installation
The purchase price covers shipping to a local service center and full installation. However, the product listing adds an interesting legal warning: "Tesla employees are not permitted to connect or assist with the RH B-pillar connection of the Cybertruck Off-Road Light Bar harness to the roof accessory jumper harness. Only the customer or a third-party entity is permitted to complete the light bar harness connection."
This permanent hardware install has been redesigned for maximum safety. Originally, technicians deployed the lightbar using urethane glue, but Tesla recalled all initial lightbar installations last fall after a few instances where the adhesive layer failed and the accessory detached while driving. Engineers quickly rolled out a mechanical fix for the issue, replacing the glue with high-strength VHB tape for flush mounting and solid roof-bolted brackets to ensure the Off-Road Light Bar remains securely anchored to the vehicle structure. Tesla also sells a Terrestrial Armor Package for the Cybertruck that reinforces the vehicle’s underbody and sides for off-roading.
