One of Tesla’s most fun in-car secrets is now also available on your phone screen. If you love customizing your driving experience with retro gaming callbacks, the latest software updates have a very colorful surprise waiting for you in the Tesla mobile app.
It’s been confirmed that the Rainbow Road easter egg now also works in the Tesla app (via @Tslachan). This quirky visual change is tied directly to software version 2026.20.6.1 and Tesla app version 4.58.5, which started rolling out earlier this month and added the signature blue Full Self-Driving path visualization and a new Self-Driving indicator to the phone interface. The feature is also available on newer builds like software update 2026.20.6.6, which started hitting vehicles this week and includes FSD v14.3.5.
Check Whether FSD is Active
Tesla recently added the ability to see whether FSD is active to the Tesla app. When FSD is enabled, Tesla displays a blue FSD path to match what is seen inside the vehicle.
Now, if you have the classic Mario Kart tribute enabled in your car, the FSD path rendered in the mobile app swaps its standard blue hue for a bright, scrolling rainbow lane. To set this up, simply head to the vehicle’s touchscreen and navigate to Apps > ToyBox > Rainbow Road and turn on the Always Rainbows toggle.
Even More Rainbows With Ambient Lighting
If you drive a vehicle equipped with ambient cabin light strips, you can even toggle on the Gotta Have More Rainbows option, which makes the ambient lighting also flash a rainbow pattern in sync with the road visualization.
While the easter egg itself isn’t new, seeing it translate over to your phone years after Tesla originally introduced it is a neat touch. It shows just how much effort is going into making the mobile app a true real-time reflection of the Tesla driving experience.
