The wait to check out Tesla’s newest stretched crossover in person is officially over for order holders and curious buyers across the U.S. As mass production continues to accelerate out of Gigafactory Texas, physical display units are finally arriving at local stores and showrooms.

Last week, drone enthusiast @AirwaveDynamics shared footage of the outbound lot at Giga Texas, which was full of Launch Series Model Y Ls, many with the new Cosmic Silver exterior and Zen Grey interior. There were even delivery-ready units in Diamond Black and Stealth Grey. Now, these premium configurations appear to be dropping right onto showroom floors.

First Impressions From the Showroom Floor

Multiple store locations have already updated their display fleets. @SDembraski was able to experience a Model Y L at Tesla’s Naperville store in Chicago, while @RoadsterDogOn spotted a Cosmic Silver unit with the Zen Grey interior and 20-inch Uberhelix wheels at the Tesla store in Tysons, Virginia. While these initial units are strictly for static display and aren’t available for public demo drives yet, visitors are completely free to climb inside, sit across all three rows, and test out the new cabin configuration first-hand.

The Model Y L is an updated, long-wheelbase variant of the Model Y that stretches 196 inches in total length (7 inches longer than the standard Y) and accommodates a true 2-2-2 seating layout. Here’s a quick refresher on some of the Model Y L’s key specs:

@SDembraski was able to get hands-on with the Model Y L, doing everything short of actually driving it. He noted that the interior features a larger 16-inch touchscreen up front and highlighted the new, actively cooled wireless phone chargers, premium 20-inch wheels, and front bumper camera (which has its own dedicated washer). For families worried about third-row utility, he mentioned that the back floor is only slightly elevated and that, at six feet tall, he was able to fit into the third row quite easily. He concluded that the overall build feels very premium and well-made. Check out his full tour of the Model Y L in the video below:

U.S. Orders and Availability

This showroom arrival comes just a couple of weeks after Tesla launched the six-seat Model Y L in the U.S. earlier this month. The variant originally debuted in China last summer and is now open for North American orders starting at $61,990, with the first customer deliveries slated to begin this September. Order books are filling up fast, though, with new orders already slipping into the October-November delivery timeline at the time of writing.

To sweeten the deal for early adopters, all orders placed during this initial production window include a special Launch Series package. This adds exclusive launch badging and bespoke accents to the vehicle alongside ownership perks like a free year of Supercharging and Full Self-Driving (Supervised).

North America isn’t the only region getting ready for the Model Y L, either. A heavily camouflaged Model Y L was recently spotted doing validation loops on a test track in Germany, indicating that a European launch will likely follow soon. For American buyers on the fence about ordering, heading down to a local store to sit inside a display unit is the perfect way to size up the extra row before deliveries begin this fall.
