Owners of older Tesla vehicles with Hardware 3 (HW3/AI3) computers have a major reason to be excited about the latest Full Self-Driving (Supervised) update. After a brief pause in the FSD v14 Lite deployment sequence, Tesla is preparing to push an updated version to a much larger audience. The update bridges the gap between older and newer vehicle fleets by bringing the main FSD v14 branch’s feature set to legacy cars.
Tesla AI chief Ashok Elluswamy took to X to confirm the deployment strategy for the new FSD v14 Lite build, which started rolling out to early access testers in the U.S. today with software version 2026.20.6.10. Elluswamy confirmed that “this is the version that’s likely going to wide release.” The statement dropped as a direct response to an extensive first-hand review of the new FSD v14 Lite from Tesla community member Zack (@BLKMDL3).

Breaking Down Tester Feedback
Since the original FSD v14 Lite release last month lacked version numbers, we didn’t expect Tesla to release minor updates for the Lite branch. It looks like it’s getting at least one revision, though. Zack noted that the new build brought some big UI changes and critical behavioral improvements to older cars, pulling them closer in line with what Hardware 4 (HW4/AI4) users get with mainstream v14.
In his detailed public breakdown, Zack wrote: "V14 Lite was already quite good and this update brought some HUGE UI improvements which makes it feel so much better. Tesla has added a great Start Self Driving from park change where you now don’t have to confirm by pressing the brake pedal to start FSD from park. Seems like a minor change but it’s a huge quality of life improvement." He also highlighted the inclusion of the blue “P” destination tracker, the interactive parking at destination options overlay, the addition of the Self-Driving app, and new FSD streaks.
About the actual driving, Zack said highway cruising felt really dialed in. He added: "Highway performance is SO good still. Keeps a consistent speed with no unnecessary lane changes and I saw zero left lane camping tonight. It handles high speed curves so perfectly and doesn’t ping pong and it feels so dialed in." The tester concluded that the overall build felt so much safer than the older v12.6.4 logic branch, which was the latest version of FSD available for HW3 vehicles for about 14 months before FSD v14 Lite originally started rolling out late last month.
Bridging the Hardware 3 Gap
The release of this second, more complete Lite build marks a major step forward for the legacy fleet. FSD v14 Lite is a smaller, distilled version of the primary consumer FSD v14 model. The software is custom-made to deliver newer features and capabilities to older Hardware 3 vehicles, acting as a crucial software bridge until Tesla can offer hardware upgrades to bring older computers fully up to par. Tesla has previously confirmed that HW3 vehicles, as they are now, won’t be able to achieve unsupervised autonomy. The memory-constrained hardware will also be locked out of the next major FSD release, version 15.
