Tesla has announced that its integration of SpaceXAI’s Grok AI is coming to all of Europe. The announcement came alongside news of the Summer 2026 Software Update, which will add support for vehicle commands to the chatbot. Drivers will be able to make phone calls, control music playback, change climate settings, open the glovebox, and more, all by simply talking to Grok.
Right before Tesla announced the Summer 2026 Software Update and Grok’s European expansion, it confirmed that the chatbot is also launching soon in additional Asian markets, including India, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
Evolving Capabilities in the Summer Update
When Grok originally made its automotive debut last summer, it was exclusive to drivers in the U.S. before expanding to Canada, Australia, and select European territories. Grok also made its way to several Asian countries recently with software update 2026.20. Now, the assistant is arriving for the entirety of Europe with the Summer 2026 feature release, expected to drop as update 2026.26, as well as additional markets in Asia.
Grok served primarily as a conversational chatbot at launch, answering general trivia questions or amusing drivers with jokes and stories. However, Tesla has continually expanded what the AI can do behind the wheel. Drivers have already been using Grok for navigation, quickly setting destinations or adding stops along a route using normal voice prompts. Tesla later expanded on that capability by adding support for location-based reminders in software update 2026.14, letting you ask the car to remind you about tasks when you arrive home or at work. You can now even rouse the chatbot by simply saying, “Hey Grok.”
The Summer 2026 Software Update takes things much further by giving the assistant actual hardware access. Owners will be able to place hands-free phone calls, search for and play music, adjust climate settings, and possibly even turn on seat ventilation/heating simply by talking naturally. All of these capabilities will be available everywhere Grok is, including upcoming new markets.
What to Expect From Grok in the Future
While handling cabin climate and audio playback makes the daily commute easier, the software roadmap points toward much deeper system access. Elon Musk confirmed earlier this year that Full Self-Driving integration for Tesla's Grok implementation was already in development.
The goal is to turn the chatbot into a virtual chauffeur that responds to casual instructions, such as telling the vehicle to pull over or change lanes. Musk said last month that FSD voice controls for Grok could arrive this fall, giving a timeline of roughly three months for the feature. As natural language processing handles more vehicle functions and settings over the coming year, touching the central touchscreen could soon become entirely optional.
