Tesla FSD V14.1 Lite Rolls Out: First Impressions

This weekend, Tesla released FSD v14.1 Lite to early access testers, and now this update is going out to more owners with Tesla update 2026.21.6. FSD v14.1 Lite builds on Tesla’s big v14 Lite release, adding some much-needed improvements, but some glaring issues remain.

FSD v14 Lite initially went out in late June, but like any major FSD release, there were some regressions, even though the software was now much more capable than FSD v12.6. While this update doesn’t add any new features, it looks to make FSD more confident and smoother.

Tesla owner Zack has posted his initial impressions of FSD v14.1 Lite after more than 150 miles behind the wheel of this new point release, while TechGeek tested the vehicle’s performance while reversing.

V14.1 Lite Improvements

When comparing FSD Lite to its bigger brother, the biggest differences are due to smoothness, confidence, and reaction times. We recently looked at a comparison of reaction times between FSD v12.6, FSD v14 Lite and FSD v14.3.6. While FSD v14 Lite saw a major improvement in reaction time compared to v12.6.4, it was still noticeably slower than the larger v14 model for HW4.

Confidence

In Zack’s review, he noted that FSD v14.1 Lite showed improved confidence over v14 Lite, completely eliminating accelerator pulsations. Previously, v14 Lite would tap the accelerator for a split second without intending to move forward. Over his review of over 100 miles, he didn’t see this behavior once and thinks it’s completely gone.

He also saw improvements in FSD’s commitment to turns. When the vehicle decided it was safe to go, it was much more confident, and it would start and complete the turn instead of hesitating.

Steering Wheel Wobble

One of the more obvious issues of FSD v14 Lite and even v12.6 is the steering wheel wobble, where the vehicle is almost completely stopped, and the steering wheel just jiggles left and right. While it’s still present in this latest release, it seems improved over the last build.

Parking

As we covered before, FSD v14 Lite has struggled with parking and reversing, and unfortunately this release doesn’t appear to improve that much. Parking is still hit or miss, and it’ll continue to park at an angle or completely outside the lines sometimes.

Still Has Issues Reversing

FSD v14 Lite had some serious issues backing up, often not seeing objects directly behind the vehicle. Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem any better in FSD v14.1 Lite, as the vehicle still doesn't see large objects directly behind the vehicle while reversing.

V14.1 Lite was tested with several large objects behind the vehicle, including a garbage bin and a bicycle, and the vehicle never slowed down. The video by TechGeek is below:

Model S and Model X

Unfortunately, Tesla has still not rolled out FSD v14 Lite for the Model S and Model X. These vehicles are still on v12.6.4, with no upgrade in sight. It’s possible Tesla is trying to address the majority of customers first, and then they’ll begin retraining the FSD model for the S/X.

So far, Tesla hasn’t commented on the reason for the delay or when the update will arrive for the Model S/X, but we’ll be sure to provide any details when they do.

Release

Despite some of these remaining issues, this release shows a lot of promise and improvements in confidence over the previous v14 Lite release. While we shouldn’t expect v14-level capabilities, FSD v14 Lite drastically improves the experience for HW3 owners and adds a lot of FSD-related features such as Start FSD from Park, Arrival Options, FSD Stats, Streaks, and more. This point release simply refines the experience and removes some of the flawed behavior.

After a short period with early access testers, the update is now going out to Tesla owners in North America. While Tesla has already released FSD v14 Lite in South Korea, it may be a while before we see it introduced in other international markets.
