Tesla Roadster Is ‘Very Soon,’ Franz Says as 10-Year Anniversary Approaches

Tesla’s next-generation Roadster is back in the spotlight. Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen has again said the car is coming “very soon,” while Elon Musk has reaffirmed his promise that its upcoming demonstration will be unforgettable.

Tesla was reportedly targeting August for the latest Roadster reveal after several earlier dates slipped.

Roadster Is Coming Very Soon

During a new episode of Jay Leno’s Garage, Leno mentioned that he was still waiting for the new Roadster (known specs). Von Holzhausen responded that it was coming very soon and repeated the point when Leno pressed him. Leno then noted that it has been just shy of 10 years since Tesla first announced the car.

Tesla unveiled the second-generation Roadster on November 16, 2017, putting its 10-year anniversary in November 2027. Franz did not give a date or month for the official re-reveal, but his comments, made in the context of Leno pointing out the approaching anniversary, indicate Tesla still expects the Roadster to appear well before then.

This is also not the first recent hint from Tesla’s design chief. In June, von Holzhausen said the Roadster could be seen very soon, as Tesla continued preparing the updated car for its public debut.

Musk Repeats His ‘Unforgettable’ Claim

Musk reaffirmed his unforgettable claim yesterday by responding affirmatively to an X post referencing the Roadster and his previous promise that its product demonstration would be unforgettable. Musk also went on to comment on a post about flying cars, stating “you will get flying cars,” hinting at the Roadster's upcoming gas thrusters that will likely lift the Roadster briefly off the ground.'

Tesla’s Roadster Reveal Has Already Moved Several Times

Tesla previously targeted April 1, 2026, for the Roadster unveiling, but Musk later moved the target to late April. During Tesla’s first-quarter earnings call, the timeline shifted again toward late May or early June. A June report then said Tesla had pushed the planned demonstration to August or possibly later.

Tesla executives said in May that alpha Roadster prototypes were being tested and that the car is planned to be built in Texas. Tesla has also filed several new Roadster trademarks ahead of the planned reveal.

For now, Tesla has not announced a firm date for the Roadster event. But with August underway, Franz again saying it is coming very soon, and Musk repeating his confidence in the demo, attention is once again turning to when Tesla will finally show the updated Roadster.
