Tesla is expanding vehicle-to-load support to more Model Y vehicles. Tesla now lists the Tesla Outlet Adapter as compatible with the Model Y Premium, joining the Model Y Performance, Model Y L, and Cybertruck. However, compatibility only extends to recently built Model Y Premium vehicles.
The required hardware was only recently added to the Model Y Premium, leaving out earlier Juniper versions and all pre-Juniper vehicles.
Tesla Adds Model Y Premium Support
Tesla’s U.S. shop now officially lists the Model Y Premium, Model Y Performance, and Cybertruck as compatible with its $80 Outlet Adapter. Tesla has also added the adapter as an optional accessory on its order page when buyers select a Model Y Premium.
The less expensive Model Y Standard is not included, and Tesla currently does not list any Model 3 variant as compatible at this time.

How to Check If Your Model Y Is Compatible
Unfortunately, most Model Ys aren't supported because they don’t include the required hardware.
Owners have reported that refreshed Model Ys built as recently as May 2026 appear incompatible. Reports from June-built vehicles are mixed, suggesting that Tesla likely swapped out the parts around this time. Tesla verifies eligibility using the vehicle’s VIN when an owner attempts to purchase the adapter.
To check whether your Model Y is compatible, open the Tesla Shop in the Tesla app and search for the outlet adapter. On the product page, Tesla will specify whether your vehicle is compatible with the device.
The determining factor appears to be the vehicle’s Power Conversion System, or PCS. The PCS is part of Tesla’s high-voltage power electronics and handles power conversion involved in functions such as AC charging. Newer PCS revisions can support the bidirectional power flow needed to send energy back out through the charge port.
Tesla Outlet Adapter Capabilities
The Tesla Outlet Adapter turns your vehicle into a portable source of AC power. However, it does require a Gen 3 Mobile Connector. To use the outlet adapter, you replace the outlet plug on the Mobile Connector with Tesla’s Outlet Adapter and plug the other end into your vehicle.
The adapter provides two 110-volt outlets, capable of providing up to 20 amps of power, or about 2,400 watts. This is essentially enough to run almost any appliance or power tool. This even includes power-hungry devices such as a small portable heater or portable AC unit.

This change to the Model Y does not add full Powershare support or the ability to serve as a whole-home backup as the Cybertruck can with its Powershare-capable Wall Connector.
While this is an extremely useful feature, the Mobile Connector's long cable leaves something to be desired when plugging in smaller appliances. In China, Tesla sells a much more compact outlet adapter that plugs directly into the vehicle.
We’ll have to wait and see if Tesla releases a similar product in North America.
