Tesla has revealed more details about its upcoming Cybercab launch event, confirming it will take place in Austin, Texas. Tesla is also running a sweepstakes that will give five people the chance to attend. Tesla has not yet disclosed the exact event date, but the timing of the contest points to an event in late August or early September.
Cybercab Launch Event Will Be in Austin
Tesla’s new official event page confirms that the Cybercab launch event will be held in Austin. That lines up with what we previously expected when Tesla first announced the event, since Austin is home to Tesla’s Robotaxi operations and Texas Gigafactory.
Tesla has not published the event’s actual date yet. The sweepstakes runs through August 23, with winners selected and notified on August 25. That timing suggests the launch could take place shortly afterward, likely in late August or early September, although Tesla has not confirmed that window.
Enter Tesla’s Cybercab Sweepstakes
The easiest way to enter is through Tesla’s Robotaxi service. Eligible riders receive one sweepstakes entry for every completed Robotaxi ride taken between August 17 and August 23. Canceled rides do not count, and there is no limit on the number of entries a person can earn.
Enter Without a Robotaxi Ride
Here is the part most Tesla fans will care about. Tesla is also offering a free mail-in entry method, so you don't need a paid Robotaxi ride to participate. The sweepstakes is open to eligible U.S. residents who meet the age requirements, which is a minimum of 18 years old, unless you’re in Alabama or Nebraska, then it’s 19, and if you’re in Mississippi, then it’s 21.
Tesla will randomly select five winners on August 25th. Each winner receives the right to attend the Cybercab launch event, but Tesla says transportation to Austin isn’t included. Winners will also receive event items valued at $25.
More Cybercab Details Are Coming
We don’t know exactly what the event will entail, but it’ll likely include rides in Tesla’s Cybercab around GigaTexas or Austin. Since the Cybercab isn’t primarily aimed at consumers, we’re not sure whether Tesla will divulge additional details about the vehicle.
Instead, we may hear more about Tesla’s plan for the Cybercab and how it changes Tesla’s robotaxi network in terms of cost and safety.
When Tesla first announced the event, we noted that reports pointed to an Austin Cybercab rollout as early as August. Tesla has now confirmed Austin as the event location, but they’re still holding back the exact date and details of the announcement.
