Tesla has officially announced a Tesla Semi Rollout event for September 24 at its new dedicated factory in Sparks, Nevada. The invite-only event will celebrate the opening of the new Semi factory and give attendees access to factory tours and ride-alongs in the updated Tesla Semi. The event comes several months after Tesla began building Semis on its new high-volume production line.
Tesla Semi Event
Invitations sent to attendees describe the event as a celebration of the new Semi Factory opening in Sparks. Guests will be able to tour the facility and experience the Semi during ride-alongs. Invitees may bring one additional guest, while RSVPs are due September 2. Like the upcoming Cybercab event, attendees must be at least 21 years old, and identification will be checked at the event.
The new dedicated factory covers roughly 1.7 million square feet and is designed to eventually produce up to 50,000 Semis annually.
Tesla Semi Mass Production
Tesla announced the first Semi from its high-volume line on April 29. The production version has also changed considerably from Tesla’s original Semi. Changes include adding electric steering assistance, replacing the previous hydraulic system, upgraded actuators, a 48-volt electrical architecture, and 4680 battery cells designed around commercial-truck longevity. The truck also saw a redesign with a new front light bar.
Europe and FSD
Tesla is also preparing to reveal European specifications and launch details at IAA Transportation in Hannover, Germany, which runs September 15 through September 20.
The Tesla Semi has 10 cameras, similar to Tesla vehicles, and Tesla recently confirmed that the Semi will receive FSD in a future update.
Moving Beyond a Pilot
Tesla first revealed the Semi in 2017, but production remained limited for years after initial customer deliveries began in 2022 to PepsiCo.
Tesla has also started building out the charging infrastructure needed to support more trucks. In July, Tesla opened the world’s first public Semi Megacharger site, while additional Megacharger locations are under development.
The September 24 event should provide a closer look at the Tesla Semi and at its new factory.
