Tesla has announced another update to its Robotaxi network. The service now operates from 6 am through 10 pm, 7 days a week, and its unsupervised fleet is now "a lot bigger." More importantly, Tesla states that its vehicle disbtribution and routing has upgraded intelligence that will result in shorter wait times.
Launch to Unsupervised Rides
Tesla launched its public Robotaxi service in Austin on June 22, 2025. The initial invite-only service used roughly 20 Model Ys and included a safety monitor in the front passenger seat.
Tesla began testing unsupervised Robotaxis in Austin in December 2025 and a month later started offering some public rides without a safety monitor.
This year brought even bigger milestones with Tesla expanding the Robotaxi network to Dallas and Houston this April. Just last month, Tesla launched unsupervised Robotaxi rides in Miami, followed by Orlando and Tampa just weeks later.
How Big Is Tesla's Robotaxi Fleet
Tesla doesn’t post robotaxi vehicle counts, but community tracking estimates about 85 active commercial Robotaxis across Tesla's live markets, though that figure is not official.
Tesla’s announcement comes earlier than expected as Tesla recently told JPMorgan that it was holding back on adding additional Model Ys while preparing to introduce Cybercab. However, a larger unsupervised fleet doesn’t necessarily mean Tesla added more vehicles. They could have simply shifted some from supervised to unsupervised.
The statement about improved intelligence is also interesting, given the new “Roaming” feature recently seen on the Cybercab. This feature likely means the vehicle will roam the streets and move toward more congested areas, likely reducing wait times.
Tesla has not provided a total number of unsupervised vehicles, but this update confirms that Tesla isn’t simply waiting for the Cybercab to roll out improvements to the robotaxi fleet. Tesla’s Cybercab event is slated for early next month.
