Tesla has registered 79 additional vehicles, bringing the total to 270 Model Y robotaxi vehicles registered in Texas. The new registrations arrived just after Tesla extended daily service hours and announced changes to its unsupervised fleet.
Registered Fleet Rises
A community robotaxi tracker reported 79 additions to the robotaxi fleet today, raising the total from 191 to 270 vehicles. That's a 41.4 percent increase in Texas.
This information comes from robotaxi vehicle registrations, which are required in Texas, not actual robotaxi use, and a registration does not mean that a vehicle is already carrying passengers or operating without supervision. However, it is a sign that Tesla expects to greatly expand its fleet in Texas, especially when coupled with yesterday’s news.
Yesterday, Tesla announced that its unsupervised fleet is now a lot larger and that the vehicles now run longer and with improved intelligence.
Tesla has not released its total fleet size and is unlikely to do so until the numbers are steadily increasing and at a scale comparable to other autonomous vehicles in the area. For comparison, Waymo currently has 736 robotaxis registered in Texas.
Improved Robotaxi Hours
Tesla told riders that its robotaxi service now operates from 6 a.m. through 10 p.m. every day. Tesla also announced that its unsupervised fleet had grown “a lot” and that it upgraded its routing and vehicle distribution intelligence, which is expected to improve routing and reduce wait times.
Texas Robotaxi History
Tesla started public Robotaxi rides in Austin on June 22, 2025. The invite-only launch used about 20 Model Ys, with a safety monitor seated in the front passenger seat of every vehicle.
This April, Tesla opened unsupervised service in Dallas, Houston, and various parts of Florida. We’re now seeing Tesla’s robotaxi service expand to new regions much more quickly, and that may accelerate once Tesla launches the Cybercab, as it has said it's deliberately holding back robotaxi expansion until the Cybercab launches.
