European buyers configuring orders for Tesla’s best-selling electric crossover are seeing a noticeable aesthetic shift in the cabin options. Tesla has officially updated its European design studio, replacing the long-standing “Black and White” interior option on Model Y Premium (formerly Long Range) trims with a new “Zen Grey” color scheme.
The configurator change was first spotted by community member @EFIEBER_ANDRE, who shared the update on X. The update applies to both the Rear-Wheel Drive and All-Wheel Drive variants of the Model Y Premium. It replaces the Black and White interior trim and, like its predecessor, costs €1,200. The traditional stark white interior remains available as an upgrade for the Model Y Performance, while the base Model Y only comes in the default All Black Interior.
Zen Grey is now available on Model Y Premium RWD and AWD orders across European markets, including Germany, the UK, France, and Scandinavia.
Comparing Zen Grey to the Classic White Cabin
Comparing the two interior trims highlights a big change in contrast and materials. The classic Black and White interior featured bright white seats paired with high-contrast black on the center console, armrest, door pulls, and other trim pieces.
In contrast, the new Zen Grey cabin brings a softer, more unified appearance. The seats are wrapped in light grey vegan leather, while the door armrests, center console sides, and wireless charging deck are color-matched in the same grey tone. This more cohesive approach wraps the entire lower cabin in lighter materials and alleviates some of the harsh contrast of the older two-tone styling. The Global Zen Grey Rollout
This interior update follows Tesla’s standard manufacturing playbook. Back in April, Tesla replaced the white Model Y interior with Zen Grey in China, also updating export vehicles built at Gigafactory Shanghai for Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, and other markets served by the Asian hub. Now, Gigafactory Berlin is implementing the same change for its European lines.
Tesla frequently tests and introduces hardware revisions at Giga Shanghai before rolling them out globally, much like when it introduced a black headliner for the Model Y earlier this year.
The Zen Grey upholstery originally debuted on the longer-wheelbase Model Y L in China last year. With Tesla launching the six-seat Model Y L in the U.S. last month ahead of September deliveries, the Zen Grey option is already available on at least one model stateside. That further reinforces our expectation that the interior scheme will expand to American Model Y Premium builds in the near future. Drivers who still prefer the ultra-bright Black and White interior over Zen Grey should consider placing an order soon before Tesla phases out the white option in the U.S.
