Tesla got an order for three Tesla Semis as a demonstration project.
If it works the way it seems like it will work, electric transport could be extremely profitable for the logging industry on Vancouver Island.
The trees that the loggers harvest are at higher elevations, and the logs are transported down the mountain for processing. So you have empty trucks going up the mountain on battery power.
On the way down the mountain, the trucks carry a full load, but not only does it take very little battery power to go downhill, all that extra weight helps to recharge the batteries.
I can't wait to see if this actually works so well that the truck batteries don't need to be charged at all. That extra weight of logs coming down the mountain compared to the empty weight of the trucks going up might create all the regenerative charging that's needed. I suspect, though, that they're going to need extra electric motors, perhaps on the trailer axles, to make this concept actually work.
