Tesla has quietly rolled out map updates across two key Texas Robotaxi markets, expanding service coverage in both Dallas and Austin as driverless fleet testing accelerates and the Cybercab prepares to enter the fray.
The Robotaxi service’s broader operational footprint supports a network that currently spans seven active markets across the U.S.:
Austin: Mix of unsupervised Model Y rides and safety monitor rides
Bay Area: Safety monitor Model Y rides only
Dallas: Unsupervised Model Y rides only
Houston: Unsupervised Model Y rides only
Miami: Unsupervised Model Y rides only
Orlando: Unsupervised Model Y rides only

Dallas Operating Area More Than Doubles
Tesla last week rolled out its first boundary change in Dallas since first launching unsupervised Robotaxi rides in the city back in April.
According to information shared by industry watcher @SawyerMerritt on X and geofence data from RobotaxiTracker, the Dallas service territory has more than doubled in size to 81 square miles (from 31 square miles at launch). Rather than remaining confined to the original central corridor around Highland Park, the expanded boundaries push westward toward Irving and incorporate wider sections of downtown Dallas, unlocking driverless commuter routes across a much larger metro population.
Every Robotaxi ride in the Dallas market continues to operate completely unsupervised, meaning passenger vehicles navigate the city with no safety driver behind the wheel or monitor in the front passenger seat.
Austin Geofence Pushes Northward
Meanwhile in Tesla’s home city of Austin, the primary testing grounds are also expanding outward. While Tesla expanded unsupervised Robotaxi operations across its Austin service area earlier this summer, the overall geofence had stayed unchanged for roughly 10 months.
That changed when community observer @WorldlyReviewer spotted updated boundary lines in the Robotaxi app earlier today. It looks like the Austin geofence has grown roughly 9% in total land area. The revision expands coverage further north along Interstate 35 and Highway 183 toward Pflugerville, expanding the total Austin operating territory from 244 to about 264 square miles.
With 264 square miles of coverage, Austin remains the largest active geofence in Tesla's autonomous network.
Preparing Infrastructure for the Cybercab Debut

These geographic expansions arrive right alongside operational improvements. Over recent weeks, Tesla has expanded Robotaxi operating hours and added more vehicles to its driverless fleet.
All of this comes ahead of Tesla’s upcoming Cybercab launch event set for September 3 in Austin. Tesla has already been testing fully autonomous, steering wheel-less Cybercabs in Austin for months, and growing Robotaxi geofences across major Texas hubs sets the stage for the dedicated two-seater to enter public passenger service and take over the helm from the retrofitted Model Ys Tesla is currently using.
