Tesla Adds Built-In Ad Blocker to Browser in Update 2026.32

Tesla's 2026.32 software update quietly integrates a built-in ad blocker into the in-car browser, speeding up page loads and cutting resource drain on older hardware.

Browsing the web from a vehicle touchscreen has come a long way over the years, but modern websites cluttered with auto-playing video ads and tracking scripts can quickly bog down in-car processors. With its latest software update, Tesla is taking direct aim at page clutter by quietly introducing a built-in ad blocker to its infotainment web browser.

The silent addition was first brought to light on X by Roland Pircher (@piloly), who demonstrated how the browser handles ad-heavy websites on software version 2026.32.3. In the demo, navigating to an ad-heavy news page after enabling the ad blocker (there’s a new AD button in the top-right corner of the browser) loads a much cleaner article, stripping out intrusive banners, pop-up overlays, and floating videos before they can render. The addition of an official ad blocker builds on a string of recent browser improvements. During the 2026.26 Summer Update that enabled in-car video conferencing, Tesla’s web browser gained access to the interior cabin camera, allowing users to join video calls on Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Discord, and more. Tesla also added bookmark syncing, full-screen video, and better scaling to the browser in that same release.

Under the Hood: A Custom Chromium Extension?

Tesla’s onboard browser is built on a Chromium base wrapped in a custom UI. Because Chromium shares the same foundation as Google Chrome, integrating filtering rules or building a custom ad-blocking extension into the application layer is relatively straightforward for developers.

While there’s currently no visible toggle or settings menu to adjust blocklists or whitelist specific domains, the built-in blocker works automatically behind the scenes once you enable it.

By killing ad trackers, third-party analytics scripts, and heavy banner animations at the network request level, the browser only loads core page text and media. This saves cellular data on Premium Connectivity while making webpages faster to load and smoother to scroll.

A Big Relief for Intel Vehicles

While owners of newer Tesla vehicles with beefier AMD Ryzen infotainment chips already enjoy snappy browser speeds, this update is an even bigger win for older vehicles equipped with Intel Atom hardware (MCU 2).

Older Intel processors often struggle when rendering bloated, script-heavy modern web pages. Having multiple tabs open or loading media-rich sites on an Atom unit routinely leads to stuttery touch input or sudden browser crashes as memory fills up.

By preventing resource-hogging ad frameworks from loading in the first place, older vehicles save crucial memory and CPU resources. Trimming out digital noise ensures that native web browsing remains responsive across every generation of Tesla hardware.

In addition to this new ad blocker, update 2026.32 also introduces a new wheel and tire configuration UI and the ability to search through your Apple Music library, among other improvements.
