Behind the charge port door on newer Model X and Model S cars, opposite the hinge, there is a button you might not have noticed.
If you rotate the button it will move in or out to adjust where the charge port door closes so you can have it flush with your car side.
If you push it when the charge port door is open and charge cable handle is installed and locked, it will release the cable.
No need to push on release button on the charger handle button.
If you push on left side of a closed charge port door, it will open the door.
