Most Teslas come with wheel covers that can be removed for better looks, however, it typically has a small effect on range.

While Tesla lets you adjust the vehicle wheel visualization in the app and in the vehicle, it requires you to go to Controls > Service > Wheels just to change to the look without wheel covers.

Tesla is now going to make this much easier and consider the wheel cover and no-wheel-cover version of the wheel the same type of wheel. Users will then be able to easily change the look of the wheel by selecting whether they have the wheel covers on or off.

Keep in mind that the selected wheel isn’t only for the visualization, but Tesla also uses it to determine expected range as some wheels are more efficient than others.

The expectation is that you’ll be able to toggle between the wheel cover or no-wheel-cover version of the wheel type in the Tesla app and in the vehicle, without hunting through a long list of wheel types.

When taking your vehicle in for service, Tesla sometimes offers a loaner vehicle for your use if your vehicle will be in service for more than a few hours.

Unfortunately, loaners aren’t always available and Tesla has had to fall back on Uber credits or sometimes not offer back up transportation at all.

That appears to be about to change as this Tesla app update hints at Tesla’s robotaxi also being an option for back up transportation when taking your vehicle in for service.

This moves makes a lot of sense as it would fill the need of providing transportation for the customer, while also drastically reducing costs for Tesla. Instead of having to pay for Uber themselves or have loaner vehicles on hand, Tesla could provide robotaxi rides at a fraction of the cost.

This change is likely not far off in the future as Tesla could start providing this type of service today in several areas like Austin, Texas and gradually expand at the same time as its Robotaxi service.

Tesla is adding Passkey support in an upcoming app update. Passkeys allow your device to authenticate locally with a fingerprint sensor or Face ID and log in to apps or websites without a password. Instead, passkeys use private and public keys to authenticate, making them more secure than passwords that can be guessed or brute-forced.

While passkey support is not active yet in this app update, new phrases point to it launching soon, including:

• passkey_status

• passkeyEnrolled

Tesla appears to be upgrading the Tesla wallet in the app. The wallet holds your saved credit cards, Tesla credits, gift cards, and bank account details.

There are no clues about what the updated wallet will include, but it could store more items, like Tesla Key Cards, display your phone keys, and more.

Tesla is making a handful of Powershare changes in this app update. The Cybertruck already supports V2H, and several other vehicles, including the new Model Y Premium models support V2L. This update could introduce improvements to the Powershare feature for these supported vehicles.

While the new Model Y L also supports V2H, it appears to support it only at 2.4 kW with a Powerwall, while the Cybertruck can support up to 11.5 kW.

In the 2025 Holiday Update, Tesla added a Live Activity for Dog Mode on iOS. This lets owners easily keep track of the temperature inside their vehicle, along with a photo that’s automatically updated every minute of the interior of the car.

Tesla is now adding this feature to Android. This app update refers to several phrases that hint at this feature being added with this update, or will soon be added. These phrases include:

android_native_dog_mode_notif_image_title: “Pet Mode”

Tesla’s AI-based assistant in the app will soon let owners share photos and documents. This will likely let the assistant help with vehicle issues simply by the user sharing a screenshot of their app or a photo of the vehicle’s screen.

Some of the new phrases in this update that hint at this future coming in the future include TESLA_ASSIST_UPLOAD_FILE and useTeslaAssistAttachments.

Tesla recently also added the ability to use your microphone to write to Tesla Assist. However, this feature currently just transcribes your voice to text. In a future update, you may be able to talk directly to Tesla Assist.

When you start a conversation with Tesla Assist, you can continue it or refer back to it later.

Tesla now lists recent Tesla Assist conversations in the messages section, the same location where Tesla sends service and promo announcements.

These Tesla Assist conversations are only kept in the Messages section temporarily and automatically disappear after several hours. You can also manually delete them by swiping left on the message or pressing End in the Tesla Assist window.
